Privacy Policy
Last updated: 5 October 2026
This policy explains what information Cool Sh*t You Can Buy (“we”, “us”) collects when you use coolshityoucanbuy.com, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We keep it to the minimum needed to run the site.
Who we are
Cool Sh*t You Can Buy is a website that finds and shares unique gifts and cool products. You can contact us about anything in this policy at info@coolshityoucanbuy.com.
Our newsletter
If you sign up to our newsletter, we collect your email address and use it to send you our product emails. Our newsletter is sent through our email provider, Brevo, which stores your email address on our behalf. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to remove your details at any time.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google, to understand how people use our site: which pages are visited, how long people stay, and which products get the most interest. This helps us decide what to feature and improve.
Google Analytics collects information such as the pages you view, the device and browser you use, your approximate location (country or city, not your exact address) and how you arrived at our site. We also record when someone clicks a “Buy” button, including which product and shop it was. We do not send your name, email address or any other directly identifying information to Google Analytics.
If you are in the UK, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, Google Analytics only sets cookies after you agree in our cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time using the privacy settings link on our site. You can also opt out of Google Analytics on every website with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. For more, see how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Advertising
We show ads through Google AdSense to help keep the site free. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure how ads perform and, where you allow it, show ads based on your interests and your visits to this and other websites.
If you are in the UK, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before personalised ads or advertising cookies are used. If you decline, Google may still show non-personalised ads, based on things like the page you are viewing rather than your browsing history.
You can change your ad choices at any time through the privacy settings link on our site, or manage personalised advertising through Google’s My Ad Center. To learn more, see how Google uses cookies in advertising.
Your wishlist
When you tap the heart on a product, it is saved to your wishlist in your own browser on that device. No account is needed and nothing about you is sent to us at this stage.
If you choose to enter your email address on the Your Wishlist page, we store that email address together with the list of products you have saved. We use it only to:
- send you a copy of your wishlist, with a private link to open it on other devices
- keep your wishlist in step across the devices where you have opened that link
We do not add this email address to our newsletter or send you any marketing because of it, and we do not share it with anyone else. Wishlist emails are sent through our email provider, Brevo, on our behalf.
The link in your wishlist email is private to you: anyone who has it can view and change that wishlist, so please don’t share it. To have your saved wishlist and email address deleted, email us at info@coolshityoucanbuy.com from that address and we will remove them.
Product popularity counts
To show how popular a product is (for example “37 people saved this” or “Viewed 214 times this week”), and to help rank our Top 50, our own server keeps simple counts of product views, wishlist saves and buy-button clicks.
These are totals per product, not records about you. So that one person isn’t counted many times, your IP address is briefly converted into a scrambled, one-way code; the IP address itself is never stored, and the code is deleted automatically after 1 to 90 days depending on the count. Nothing from this is shared with third parties.
Affiliate links
Many links on our site are affiliate links. If you click one and then buy something, we may earn a small commission from the shop, at no extra cost to you. We are a participant in the Amazon Associates programme and also use Skimlinks for links to other retailers.
When you click an affiliate link, Amazon, Skimlinks or the retailer may set a cookie on your device so the purchase can be credited to us. Those cookies are set by them and covered by their own policies: the Amazon Privacy Notice and the Skimlinks Privacy Policy. We don’t see who you are or what you buy, only that a sale or commission occurred. See our Affiliate Disclosure for more.
Hosting and security
Our website is hosted by Hostinger. Like most websites, our servers automatically keep short-term technical logs (such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested) to keep the site secure and working properly. These logs are not used to identify you.
How long we keep information
- Newsletter email addresses: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
- Wishlist email addresses and saved products: until you ask us to delete them.
- Analytics data: kept by Google for up to 14 months.
- Popularity counts: product totals are kept; the one-way visitor codes are deleted within 90 days.
Your choices and rights
You can change your cookie and advertising choices at any time using the privacy settings link on our site. Clearing your browser’s cookies and site data also removes your on-device wishlist and preferences. See our Cookie Policy for the full list of cookies.
If you are in the UK or EU, you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to how we use it. For any of these, or any question about this policy, email info@coolshityoucanbuy.com. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or your local data protection authority.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when we change how the site works. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
